I AM

Do you ever notice how when things are right with the world, with our little worlds, things too are right with God?

When I am doing good, God is good. Yet, maybe only as good as my perception of good.  I'm so caught up in the groove of the moment, all moving along according to plan that I can only see my own little world, my own little life, not considering how much bigger, greater ever-more wonderous is the eternal life that the Father has planned for me.

And, when I'm doing not so good, God really isn't that good.  The pride in the heart is tempted to to lead the mind to wander off...to entertain those passing thoughts of Does God really care? Why doesn't He answer my prayers?  Why can't he hear me? Why won't he rescue me from this mess?? I mold Him right into my rut, and struggle to praise, honor and embrace all of Him and His goodness.

Oh, to find the anchor that would secure this one truth in my soul: God doesn't change.  Who He is doesn't ebb and flow with our moods and our circumstances. But, isn't it funny how easy it is to make Him like us, instead of us like Him when we're searching for a consoling thought or understanding in the midst of trials or uncertainty??

We rearrange His Word when it doesn't fit our circumstances and redefine His truths when they don't match up with what we think should be true.  And, He knows all along that I do think and feel all of these things, they cannot be hidden from Him.  But, nevertheless He remains always and forever loving, devoted, patient for our filial return to Him.

After running yesterday, I was stretching out on the floor, listening to the song, "I Am" by Jill Phillips and found it fitting to my train of thoughts.  Encouraged by the lyrics, I went straight for my bible and began seeking out those verses that remind just who God is.  Not the God I've made Him to be, but the God that he has been and will be for all time and eternity. As the song so beautifully says, God is constant, near, peace, holy wise and all-knowing.

I thought I would share those verses with you ~ I hope you enjoy the song and the scriptures as well!!
I Am ~ by Jill Phillips
Oh gently lay your head
Upon my chest.
And I will comfort you
Like a mother while you rest.
The tide can change so fast,
But I will stay
The same through the past
The same in future, same today.

I am constant; I am near.
I am peace that shatters all your secret fears.
I am holy; I am wise.
I'm the only one who knows your heart's desires.

Oh weary, tired and worn,
Let out your sighs.
And drop that heavy load you hold
Cause Mine is light.
I know you through and throuh;
There's no need to hide.
I want to show you love
That's deep and high and wide.

I am constant; I am near.
I am peace that shatters all your secret fears.
I am holy; I am wise.
I'm the only one who knows your heart's desires.
